The Loyal General
Long ago in Varanasi, there lived a king crow who had a mate he loved
dearly.
One day, as they flew past the palace of the king of Varanasi, queen
crow saw sight which made her mouth water.
Ah! How I wish I could taste just a tiny bit of that fish!
The next day-
Come my love. Let’s go out and look for some food. I want the kind of food I saw in the palace on
the king’s table. If I can’t have it, I’ll die.
As the king crow wandered what he should do, his general came up. Your
majesty, what’s the matter?
When the king told him –
Oh! Is that all? Don’t worry. I’ll see that our queen has food she
craves for.
Taking eight of the best crows with him, the general flew towards the
palace. Let’s perch on that kitchen roof. Now listen carefully while food is
being taken to the king. I’ll make the cook drop the dishes. Four of you
must then fill your beaks with rice and
four with fish, and fly to our queen. Ah! Here comes the cook! When he reaches
the open courtyard, I’ll strike!
The next moment –
Aieeeeeeeeeeee!....... Aieeeeeeeeeee!............
Drop those dishes and catch that wicked crow!
The moment the dishes were dropped. The choosen eight filled. Their
beaks and flew away.
Ah! The queen’s longing will be satisfied. They can do what they will
with me, now. Good! You’ve got him! Bring him here.
Oh, crow! You have daerd to displase me. And in this foolish venture
you’ve risked your very life! Why did you do it?
For my king. He told me about the queen’s longing for the food she saw
on your table. I Promised to get it for here – and I have kept my promise.
The bird was willing to sacrifice his life for his king! Such loyality
is rare! He must be rewarded set him free!
Hence forth a portion of the food cooked for me, shall be sent everyday
toyou and your king and queen. And a lange measure of rice shall be cooked for
your king’s following

My
Hobby
“An empty mind is a devils workshop.”
This is quite true and in and order to avoid this, one should always pursue a hobby
in lisure time. Everyone has a hobby and so do. My hobby is reading. I read story
book, magazine, news paper and any kind of material that find interesting.
This hobby got started when I was a
little boy. I had always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other
stories to me. I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

Light and Warmth
A simple lamp is easy to make. All that is needed is
a container of sort to hold fuel and a wick. The soaked wick is lit and feeds
the frame which provides the light. In ancient times, oil or melted animal
provided the fuel and the wick might have be no more than a pice of twisted
dried moss. Pre historic people living in the caves at Lascaux in France used
stone lamps many centuries ago. Similar lamps were stin employed by the invite
of Alaska in the 20th century. A dapting the principle, the Romans
made candles using a wick surrounded by solid bees wax and tallow.
Gas
lighting first appeared in 1799 in France, when a combined gas lamp and heating
apparatus was patended. The first electric bulb, the invention of a Scottish
school master called James Bowman Lindsay, appeared in 1835. Electric fires
appeared after that century. Today, many homes are warmed by gas, electric or
oil-fulled central heating.

THE PURPLE BALLOON
Martha handed Jason a purple balloon.
“Get well soon!” she was his third visitor. That’s because she was the teachers
daughter, and her mother made her. The often two, john and Eric weren’t really
his friends, although they often ganged up with him against other kids to get
their lunch money.
Jason
knew he wouldn’t have long to live. He could feel it, deep inside. Seeing his
grandmother cry after talking with doctor confirmed it. His time had come. He
didn’t tell his visitors, though. They would either pity him or be happy to get
rid of him.
Once
Martha left, he ripped a page off his notebook and wrote:
“Dear God, I know I missed up and nobody likes me.
Please give me a second chance. I can you what a good friend I can be.”
He drew
a map showing the way from the church to hospital, walked shakily to the
window, and let the balloon fly away carring his message toward the God. The
balloon headed straight to a telephone pole, but a gentle breeze blew it away
just in time. It crossed path with a duck family and disappeared out of view.
The next
day a girl he had never met before came to visit him. “I find balloon,” she
said. “You are lonely?” He just nodded too, startled to talk.
“I lonely
too. My family come from Afghanistan and I no speak English good.” She smiled.
“I bring gift to you.” She handed him a box of chocolates. “I pray for friend

CLASSROOM MYSTERY
Sujith had a new watch. It was a digital one with a
pink strap. He pressed the button and it showed the time. The students of
standard 6th ‘A’ crowded around him to see the wonderful watch.
Meena was fascinated. She started at it for a long time. She wanted that watch!
During lunch break, she went to see her mother who was employed as a maid in
school.
“I want
a digital watch amma,” she said to her mother. “Digital watch?” her mother
asked. “Yes amma.” “I am worried about how I am going to get food for the
night. I don’t have even a rupee and you are asking for a digital watch,” her
mother answered ruefully.
Meena
came back to class, disappointed. She was a good student and the class leader
too. During the games period, Sujith took off his watch and kept it carefully
in his school bag. He closed the bag and ran out. Meena could not control
herself. The classroom was empty. She opened Sujith’s bag and took out the watch. She knew once the
watch was missing, the teacher would check
every bag. Being the class
leader, it was Meena’s duty to carry the teacher’s bag to staff room she
realised it was the safest place to keep the watch.
After the games period ended, Sujith returned to class, exhausted. He
opened his bag and face paled. His watch was missing. He told his friends and
together they searched the class. Meanwhile the class teacher, miss Divya
entered the class. She was a popular teacher. She began her class: “the next
lesson is about the Indian national movement. We remember Mahatma Gandhi who
guided us through the struggle for independence and won us for freedom’’.
The teacher narrated the story of how Gandhiji refused to copy a word
from his classmate’s books and how the teachers punished him for his
disobedience. The Mahatma always stood for truth and honesty and the teacher
requested the children to follow his footsteps.
“Madam, Sujith lost his new digital watch’’, a voice piped out. Sujith
was in tear. “ Madam, my father will shout at me. It is a costly watch.” Every
bag was searched. Putting her hand
around the Sujith, the teacher assured him, “don’t worry you will get your
watch back. We are learning about the father of our nation and I am sure
everyone wants to be honest’’. Meena looked at sujith he was still crying.
That night, Meena found sleepelusive. She saw sujith’s tearful eyes and
heard her teachers voice about being honest. Next day, she arrived early at
school at school, sneaked into the staff room and took when she saw him she
went to him and gave him his watch. Sujith was surprised. “where did you find
it, Meena?”
She hung her head in shame and
said, “I’m sorry Sujith. I robbed …
stole your watch”. Tears poured down her face. “Meena, when I told my father
about my watch, he was not angry. He went to the shop and got another one,” replied Sujith. “what
will I do with two watches? You liked it, then you take
it. It is my gift to you” he paused then said, “You’ve helped me a lot. You
copied notes for me when my hand was fractured. It is yours take it” the charm
of the watch had vanished. It was Sujith’s kindness and generosity which stood
out. She gave Sujith his watch and walked to the classroom, happy and content.

It Never Comes Again
There
are gains for all losses
There are balms for all our pain
But when youth, the dream, departs
It talks something from our hearts
We are stronger, and are better
Under manhood’s sterner reign,
Still we feel that something sweet
Followed youth, with flying feet
And will never come again
Something beautiful is vanished
And we sigh for it in vain
We be hold it everywhere
On the earth, and in the air
But it never comes again

Basavanna Philosophy
Basava grew up in a Brahmin Family with a tradition of saivism. As a leader, he developed and inspired a new
devotional movement named ‘Virashaivas’,
or ‘ardent, heroic worshipper of shiva’. The movement shared its roots in the
ongoing tamil bhakti movement ,
particularly the shiva narayana traditions, over the 7th to 11th century. However, basava championed devotional
worship of shiva through practices such as individually worn icons and sybols like a small linga.

THE PATRIOT
Boundless his well as wish can claim
Breathes there the man with soul so dead,
Who never to him self hath said
“This is my own, my native land”
Whose heart hath ne’er within him burn’d
As home his footsteps he hath turn’d
From wandering on a foreign strand
If such there breathe ,go,mark him well;
For him no minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name.
Despite those titles, power ,and pelf,
The wretch,concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And , doubly dying, shall go down,
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept ,unhounour’d ,and unsung.

THE CAT AND THE FOX
A cat and a fox were once discussing about hounds. The cat
said, “I hate hounds. They are very nasty animals. They hunt and kill us”. The
fox said ,“I hate hounds more than you”.The cat asked, “How do you save
yourself from hounds?”The fox replied, “There are many tricks to get away
hounds”. The cat asked “Can you say what your tricks are?”
“They are very simple”, said the fox.He added, “I can hide behind thick
bushes.I can fun along thorny hedges.I can hide in burrows. There are many more
such tricks.” Now it was the run of the fox to ask the cat about her tricks.
The fox asked, “How many tricks do you know?” The cat replied, “ I know just
one trick”. The fox sneered, “Oh! How sad! You know only one trick? What is
your trick?” The cat was about to answer. But, She found a flock of hounds fast
approach. She said, “ I am going to do it now. Because the hounds are coming”.
Saying these words, the cat ran up a nearby tree safe from the hounds. “My one
trick is better than all his tricks”, said the cat to herself.

Time
and tide waits for no man
Human life is very short. Every man has too
many duties to perform in the course of his life. Unless one does what has do
at the right time, one will have to sorry later. For instance a sailor must set
forth on his voyage when the tide is favourable. So must a student work hard
and secure the basis of bright future during his student days. If he misses
opportunities as a result of post poning the performance of his duties at the
right time he can’t but came to grief later. There is no use of regretting
one’s failures after opportunitie have slipped by.

“look his wings are blue!”
His body was of ruby
red,
His eyes were burning gold.
All the grown up people said
“what a pity the creature is not dead,
For then it could be sold!”
One was braver than the rest
He took a loaded gun;
Aiming at the emerald crest,
He shot a creature through the breast,
Down it fell in the sun
It was not heavy, it was not fat,
And folk began to stare
“we cannot eat it, that is flat!
And such out landish feathers as that
Why, who could ever wear?”
They flung it into the river brown
“a pity the creature died”
With a smile and a frown;

Mother
Mother, you are very special
For me, you are ready to face any
trouble
You care for me, you pray for me,
You cry for me, you laugh for me,
Not all flowers
show love, like roses
Not all plants
sustain thirst, like cactus
Not all people
remember like her
Not all gods
incarnate like mother
You pamper me every time
You shout at me sometime,
You are the motivation
You are of many specialization
Every pretty bird wants
its mom
Everyone gets the boon
called mom
All the time I pray for one,
That is the precious one,
my mom.

The Importance of education
This aptly
describes the importance of a education in our life. Education is not only
helps us to earn a living but it also improves our mind. When Aristotle was asked how an educated man
is different from an uneducated one, he replied, “as much as the living is to
the dead”. They made great efforts to produce an educated class of citizens who
would be able to guide their countrymen. The learned men used their knowledge
to formulate rules and laws that were required to run a civilized society. They
pondered over scientific and mathematical problems and produced formulas that still hold true.
Unfortunately, not everyone can offered the luxury of education. Children in
the war torn or poverty stricken countries have no amenities for class room
instruction. Each new day brings not the urgent rust to school but another day
of suffering and fear. This wild flowers never receives the tender care of
decent education. Education not only helps us to gain knowledge but also
assists in developing our character and personality. It helps us to become
responsible, confident, sympathetic and mature adults. A well educated person
displays sophisticated and cultured behavior and is able to deal with situation
in a refined manner. Joseph Addison remarked, “what sculpture is took to a
block of marble, education is to the human soul”. While instruction ends in the
classroom education ends only with life. The ability to read opens a whole world of knowledge. It allows us to make full
an use of our scholarly abilities. The mental exercises involved in
intellectual pursuits sharpens our mind and keeps us alert even in old age.
While instruction ends in class room, education ends only with life.

Why God Made Teachers
When god created teachers,
He gave us special friends
To help us understand his world
And truly comprehend
The beauty and the wonder
Of everything we see,
And become a better person
With each discovery.
When god created teachers,
He gave us
special guides
To show us ways in which to grow
So we can all decide
How tolive and how to do
What’s right and instead of wrong,
To lead us so that we can lead
And learn how to be strong
Why god created teachers,
In his wisdom and his grace,
Was to help us learn to make our world
A better, wiser place.

Thought of the day for morning Assembly
You can not change your
future, but you can change your habbits. And surely your Habbits will change
your future.
This thought by Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam
teach us about the importance of changing our habbits in our life. Don’t worry
about your future because you can’t change it. Focus your mind to change your
habbits which will later change your future.
People are
reward in Public for they practiced for years in private.
The rewards for your success are given for what you
have practiced for years alone. Not a single moment of your practice days goes
away without giving you anything. So work hard in private.
Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in
day out.
Success is not the thing we
will find in a day. It takes continuous effort and sacrifices to gain success
in life. Your little effort in a day create great difference in life.

Save The Environment
Once there lived a woodcutter in a small cottage on
the bank of a small steam with his wife, a son and a daughter. They were
leading a good life. Every day the woodcutter went into the forest to cut wood
and his children would go to the school nearby. His wife used to cook food for
the children and others at home and feed them.
Every evening the woodcutter used to bring
a lots of wood and his wife used to sell it in the market and thus they earned
their living. As years went on, one day, the son asked his father, ‘why do you
go and cut the wood in the forest?’ ‘I cut the wood for our living.’ Said the
woodcutter. The young boy heard him patiently. But suddenly he said, ‘by
cutting the wood are you not destroying the environment in the forest? How will
we get enough rain? How can you save animals in the forest when there are not
trees and water in the forest? What will happen to the other creature living in
the forest?’ the woodcutter realizod his mistake to cutting the wood and
decided not to earn his living by cutting the wood and the trees anymore.
He thanked his son and said, ‘let us
embrace trees and hot kill them anymore. A tree saved is millions of others
lives saved.’

In bulk doth make man better be;
Or standing like an oak, three hundred year,
